Gary Hawkins – #Petrolheads

In this edition of Petrolheads

We meet highly respected motoring photographer Gary Hawkins.

Gary loved everything with wheels while he was growing up and started taking photographs when he was just seven years old, but he was expecting to spend his working life as a farmer. When jobs proved elusive after going to agricultural college he took a job with Autosport magazine.

Other work in motorsport followed, including being the house photographer at Brands Hatch. A horrific accident in which he was hit by a errant racing car resulted in the loss of a leg and threatened to derail Gary’s career. But his clients rallied round and he soon found himself with more work than ever.

Gary’s career taking photographs both at race tracks and elsewhere continues and has seen him take some iconic images that have been published around the world.
