Kia Rio Launch – OMI

When the Kia Rio was first launched back in 2000, it was pretty dismal. Sure it was quite roomy and dirt cheap. But it also felt like it was made from recycled sweet wrappers and the driving experience was as fun as having a bunion removed. It did its job to the bare minimum standard and nothing more – like a supermarket-brand fridge.

Kia quickly got its act together and reinvented itself as a maker of high-quality cars that could go toe-to-toe with the best from Europe and Japan. And that included Rio, which has just entered its fourth generation.

How does it stack up against the supermini competition? We sent Torque Show presenter Gerard Thatcher to Scotland to find out in his own, inimitable style.
